Alexandra Cranford WWL-TV – Career

Alexandra Cranford is a meteorologist with WWL-TV in New Orleans, where she forecasts for both the city and the tropics. Alexandra was named Best Weathercast in Louisiana by the Louisiana Associated Press in 2015, and Best Weathercast in New Orleans by the Press Club of New Orleans in 2016. The Louisiana Association of Broadcasters and Women in Media has also honored Alexandra. Alexandra, a New Orleans native, recognized early on that the weather had a significant impact on people’s lives. She grew raised on the Northshore of Slidell, where she and her family were exposed to practically every hurricane.

It’s an honor to be on the opposite side of that now, ensuring people’s safety and keeping them informed during our many severe weather events.” Alexandra interned in the Naval Research Laboratory’s Office of Oceanography as a NASA Science and Engineering Apprentice. She was a weather forecaster in Monroe and Shreveport, Louisiana, prior to joining WWL-TV in 2012. Alexandra had always appreciated science, but she didn’t decide to pursue a career in meteorology until she was in college. Her love of reading and English prompted her to major in mass communication and work at LSU’s school television station.
When she started doing weather forecasting for university-wide newscasts, she realized she had found a gratifying junction of science and English. Alexandra likes to read in her spare time (classics and science fiction are her favorites). She also enjoys horseback riding, baking, and long walks in practically any weather.
