April Ryan is a journalist and author from the United States who is best recognized for her work as a reporter. Since 1997, April has covered the White House as a White House correspondent. Ms. Ryan has also worked for CNN as a political commentator and for American Urban Radio Networks as the bureau chief for Washington, D.C. In May 2017, the National Association of Black Journalists honored her as the “Journalist of the Year.” She is the author of Under Fire, At Mama’s Knee, and The Presidency in Black and White, among other works. She was also inducted as an honorary member of Delta Sigma Theta in 2019.

Journalist and correspondent April Ryan
April graduated with a B.S. in broadcast journalism and an honorary doctorate in 2017 from Morgan State University, where she studied broadcast journalism. She received an honorary doctorate from Claflin University as well. April began working in the media business as a jazz disc jockey after earning her B.S. degree. She eventually worked as a reporter for radio stations such as North Carolina A&T University and WXYV-FM in Baltimore, Maryland.
