Chandi Chapman Career

Chandi has won and been nominated for Mid-Atlantic Emmys for her coverage of the heroin epidemic, racial unfairness, bullying in schools, and the culture behind our favorite cuisine. The nominees also praised her community service and literary ability.
To advance in the local television news sector, you must be persistent and “stick with it.” Chapman, on the other hand, was not one of them. After graduating from New Castle High School and Pitt-Greensburg, Chapman worked as a desk assistant for WTAE, where he did everything from manning the assignment desk to producing newscasts. She left WTAE for WYTV-TV in Youngstown, where she got her first taste of being on television as a reporter. Chapman then proceeded to Steubenville’s WTOV-TV, where she got her first experience of anchoring and field reporting.
Chapman then relocated to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, where she rose through the ranks at WMBF-4 TV, finally becoming the weekday anchor for the p.m. and 5:30 p.m. newscasts. Chapman later worked at WTVM-TV in Columbus, Georgia, before going back to Pennsylvania to work at WFMZ-TV, an independent station that broke into the Philadelphia television market.

Chapman was notified by current WTAE news director Jim Parsons in 2017 that a reporting position at the station was available. Chapman claimed that returning to her birthplace was the right time for her because she was expecting her first child at the time. Chapman returned to WTAE in October 2017, and it didn’t take her long to win some Mid-Atlantic Regional Emmy Awards.
Chapman and WTAE producer Mary Davies received the Team Coverage Award for “Search for a Killer” in 2018, and Chapman, former reporter David Kaplan, and chief meteorologist Mike Harvey received the Weather—News Single Story or Series Award for “February Tornado.” For the past four years, Chapman has covered topics for Pittsburgh-area audiences as a reporter, but anchoring is something she appreciates even more.

Chapman had been a fill-in anchor for a few years, but she leaped at the chance when the station was looking for an ideal 6:30 p.m. and 11 p.m. weekend anchor. Viewers have described Chapman’s anchor desk as having a “calming voice,” as if she were speaking straight to them. According to Chapman, Parsons told Chapman that she has a “unique anchor style that is true.”
