Chris Egert Career

After spending the past 20 years traveling the country recounting people’s tales, Chris returned to his family and friends in the Midwest.

When a significant story breaks, such as the George Floyd protests and riots in 2020, Chris operates behind the news desk most of the time, but when a big story breaks, he field broadcasts KSTP’s award-winning media coverage from the spot.

Chris brought viewers to Germany in 2014, where the shell of US Bank Stadium was being constructed and learned that a controversial material was being used to cover the multi-billion dollar structure. In 2013, he traveled to Africa to cover Minnesotans who were teaching doctors, educating underprivileged students, and tracking wild creatures in the Serengeti. As a morning presenter in Seattle, he was one of the first correspondents in the world to land in Japan following the 2011 earthquake and tsunami.

While in Orlando during the unprecedented 2004 hurricane season, he was pummeled by four hurricanes. As an anchor in Omaha in 2001, he accompanied military personnel through Spain on their way to Afghanistan in the aftermath of 9/11.

He has traveled with the Blue Angels, found refuge under a Walmart table, and slept in a Navy Destroyer, but now he rests at home with his family. He works the early news in order to be able to watch his kids play football, basketball, and track. On weekdays at 9:00 a.m., he will co-host “Minnesota Live” on KSTP.
