Derek Chauvin is a former U.S. police officer who is best known for his role in the assassination of George Floyd on 25 May 2020, in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
During an arrest by Chavin and three other cops, he knelt on George’s neck for a long time while Floyd was tied and laying on the street, screaming, “I can’t breathe.”

Derek was fired from the Minneapolis Police Department the next day. In the death of George Floyd, he is charged with third-degree murder and second-degree murder. This tragedy generated a wave of protests in the United States that eventually expanded throughout the globe.

Xavin was released on bond on October 7, 2020, and his case is still pending. Chauvin pled guilty to federal charges of violating Floyd’s civil rights by using excessive force and ignoring Floyd’s critical medical requirements in December 2021. Derek Chauvin was born in 1976 and served as a police officer in the United States. His father was a certified municipal accountant, while his mother was a stay-at-home mom. His mom and dad separated when he was seven years old. He graduated from Park High School in Minnesota with a GED certificate. He then enrolled in Dakota County Technical College, where he earned a certificate in quantity food preparation.
From 1996 through 2004, he was a member of the United States Army Reserve. He joined the Minneapolis Police Department (MPD) in 2001. After working off duty as a guard, he received a medal for valor in 2006 and a commendation medal in 2008.
Derek Chauvin was responsible for the murder of George Floyd, for which he knelt on his neck for 9 minutes till he passed out, calling out, “I can’t breathe.” He was sentenced to 22.5 years in prison on June 25th, 2021.
