Gary Delaney Career
In 2003, he went on a UK tour in support of Jerry Sadowitz, which was one of his more memorable moments in comedy. He performed at London’s Shepherd’s Bush Empire and Manchester University, among other venues. During the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, he also performed a show called Purist, which received positive feedback. He is the only comedian who has had two of his gags placed in the top ten of the third annual Dave Award for the Funniest Joke of the Fringe.
In July of 2012, he was a guest on Mock the Week.
Some of his jokes were poorly received, including one in which he said that Jersey residents were “seeking to throw off their tax avoidance tag and reclaim their old reputation as Nazi sympathisers.”
The citizens of Jersey were not pleased about this. The BBC responded by stating that Mock the Week is known for its edgy humour and that the phrase was “clearly tongue-in-cheek.”
He’s also had a run-in with copyright difficulties, with a joke website apparently plagiarizing his writing. When he brought it up, the site took down the content and began crediting jokes to their original authors.
