Originally from Texas, Groogan works as a special projects reporter for FOX 26 and has garnered more than 200 journalism honors, including 28 Lone Star Emmys. In 2010, 2013, and 2017, Greg was recognized by the Houston Press Club as television journalist of the year. He was awarded first place by the National Education Writers Association in 2010 for beat reporting. Greg has won the regional Edward R. Murrow award seven times. He has also won the Casey Medal for Meritorious Journalism twice for his reporting on special needs kids and the Barbara Jordan Award three times for his outstanding coverage of Texans with disabilities. The American Legion at Fox 26 honored Greg and his coworkers in 2008.
In 1989, he relocated from the desert and mesquite of South Texas to the chilly 49th state of the union. Working for Anchorage stations KIMO and KTUU for over a year, Greg covered the Exxon Valdez oil spill, which was at the time the nation’s worst-ever environmental catastrophe. In 1990, he moved back to Texas and began working for KVUE, an ABC station in Austin, first as the head of the capital bureau and then as an investigative reporter. In order to work for NBC station WKYC in Cleveland for three years, Greg once more relocated to the north in 1997. In 2000, Greg visited his relatives in Texas. Greg, a FOX 26 broadcast reporter for the Houston Business Journal, covered Enron’s and the energy trading industry’s demise.
