After graduating from college, he worked in a variety of entry-level reporting positions. He covered high-profile serial murder stories—the Ted Bundy killings—for the ‘Tallahassee Democrat,’ for which he earned great notice.
He was also one of the original reporters at ‘American Lawyer’ and briefly worked for the ‘Los Angeles Herald-Examiner.’
He decided to pursue a law degree at Harvard Law School. As a research assistant, he worked alongside Alan Dershowitz. He received his diploma in 1984.
During his time in law school, he developed an interest in finance and began trading stocks. After 14 years of successful business with Cramer & Co., he retired in 2001. Berkowitz, his old business partner, took over the firm and renamed it Cramer, Berkowitz & Co.
