Joel Barnes Career
His television career began in Wyoming when he worked as the Morning/Noon Meteorologist at KCWY News 13 until becoming the Chief Meteorologist in 2004. In order to serve as the primary prime-time meteorologist for WeatherNation, a nationally aired network centered in the Denver region, Joel moved back to Colorado in 2015.
After three years, Joel departed WeatherNation to work as the Chief Meteorologist at KYTX CBS 19 in Tyler, Texas. Joel just moved with his family to West Tennessee, where he spends weeknights working as the Chief Meteorologist for WBBJ-TV in Jackson. Joel was a standout athlete and math student in high school, making All-State football team. He received academic and football scholarships in college. Throughout college, he chased storms fervently and worked as treasurer of the UNC American Meteorology Society. He also completed an internship at KMGH News in Denver.
