Johnny Lozada Career – Mira Quien Baila

On 24 November 2013, Lozada triumphed in the fourth season of Univision’s dance competition Mira Quien Baila. This season’s judge panel consisted of Horacio Villalobos, Bianca Marroquin, and Ninel Conde. With 66 percent of the popular vote, Lozada won the first gala, setting a solid precedent for the rest of the competition. The following week, with 76 percent of the vote, he defeated El Dasa in a duel. On 29 September 2013, Lozada had to dance twice after her regional Mexican routine fell flat with the judges. His second routine included a tango, which allowed him to move on to the following round and avoid elimination. He was loathed by the all-Mexican jury during the entire season, and he was even embroiled in controversy when Conde questioned his masculinity following the local Mexican routine.
Despite his wife’s response, Lozada maintained his composure in the face of the attack. The next week, he danced to La Isla Bonita and kept his place in the winner’s circle. Lozada avoided being nominated to the elimination round with a cha-cha-cha even though there were no eliminations from the prior gala on the fifth date. The following phase involved a pasodoble’s direct classification.

At the seventh gala, Lozada performed an urban performance before falling into the elimination round for the first time. After doing a disco dance and defeating the jury’s nomination to move on to the elimination phase, he defeated Manny Manuel with 62 percent of the vote on the eighth date. Throughout the voting process, his nomination was a major topic in many different countries.
After doing a quickstep at the ninth gala, Lozada was forced into the single-elimination qualifying round for the finals. After dancing a merengue and eliminating Mane de la Parra, who despite Conde’s public encouragement only garnered 35% of the vote, he advanced to the semifinals. Even though he had publicly backed Lozada, Conde did not congratulate him or respond to him following his removal. He tore a muscle in his right arm while at the gala, but he decided to carry on after receiving treatment in the form of injections. Lozada defeated Marjorie de Sousa and Pedro Moreno with 53 percent of the voting to win the tournament with two tangos. He presented the Habitat for Humanity branch in Puerto Rico the $50,000 cash reward. Four years later, Lozada joined Roselyn Sanchez and Javier Castillo as one of the judges for season five of the program.
