Joyce Giraud is a Puerto Rican model, actress, philanthropist, and producer who works in the entertainment industry. She first competed in Miss World in 1994, however she placed worse than tenth and lost to Miss India, Aishwarya Rai. Giraud represented Puerto Rico in Miss Universe 1998 after being named Miss Universe Puerto Rico 1998 in 1998. She came in second place. Since then, she has been in films and television shows; for The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills’ fourth season, she portrayed a housewife.

One of the few supermodels from Puerto Rico to appear on magazine covers and in commercials for other countries is Giraud. Before winning the Miss Universe pageant in 1998 and placing second runner-up, Giraud participated in a number of beauty pageants in her early career.
She was twice crowned Miss Puerto Rico and previously represented Puerto Rico at Miss World in 1994. In addition to winning the Most Beautiful Hair, Most Beautiful Face, Most Beautiful Smile, and Best Runway awards in 1994, Giraud was named Miss World Puerto Rico. Later, in Spain at the Queen of the Atlantics International, she competed on behalf of Puerto Rico and was proclaimed Queen of the Atlantics in 1995.
She won the title for her hometown while representing Puerto Rico in the Miss Venus International pageant held in Jacksonville, Florida, in 1997. In 1998, Giraud was named Miss Aguas Buenas, and the following year, she was named Miss Universe Puerto Rico. She also won prizes for Miss Photogenic, Best Body, Most Beautiful Face, and Most Beautiful Hair.
Giraud was a fan favorite and placed second in the Miss Universe 1998 pageant in Hawaii, behind Venezuela’s Veruska Ramrez and Trinidad and Tobago’s winner Wendy Fitzwilliam, despite a scandal that almost cost her the crown due to some sexy modeling photos. Despite the controversy, Donald Trump gave Giraud the go-ahead to compete.
Later that year, she released “Joyce, Dreams and Realities,” a book based on her time as Miss Universe. In Honolulu, Hawaii in 2000, Giraud was the only unbeaten model to take home the prize in each episode of Star Search, then known as Destination Stardom.

When Giraud first started modeling, it was to assist her mother in paying for her mother’s college education. She quickly advanced to become one of Puerto Rico’s top models. She has made numerous appearances in both domestic and foreign advertisements. She describes how she was found while working at a KFC drive-through.
Vicente Castro’s Coralito Tiene Dos Maridos, a remake of Sonia Braga’s Dona Flor y Sus Dos Maridos, is where Giraud first fell in love with acting, shortly after becoming Miss Universe Puerto Rico. She got such encouraging feedback that she developed a new interest in life. Giraud left her native Puerto Rico where she had been working numerous part-time jobs to move to Miami, Florida, where she continued to pursue her modeling career.
She made the decision to move to Los Angeles after winning Star Search’s unbeatable model competition in 2001. Since then, she has appeared in numerous movies and television programs.
In addition to Dude, Where’s My Car?, Miss Castaway, and Slayer, Giraud has appeared in David Fincher’s Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. She has made guest appearances in a number of television programs, including Baywatch, The Suite Life of Zack and Cody, Heist, and Joey. She was a lead in NBC’s Siberia in 2013 and appeared as “Angel” for the first two seasons of Tyler Perry’s House of Payne starting in 2007. She joined The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills for its fourth season in 2013, becoming the program’s first housewife of Latino descent.
She won Bravo’s The Real Housewives Awards’ “Loveliest Locks” prize while she was a cast member. The upcoming movie Back Roads, which is based on the best-selling book, lists Giraud as a co-producer. In order to support the initiatives of the UNESCO Foundation for Children in Need, Giraud established the yearly international beauty pageant Queen of the Universe in 2012. Since then, she has produced and directed the yearly celebration. In Senegal, Africa, Giraud established the YOU Foundation for Children in Need in 2014. 2014 saw the co-creation and executive production of the Spanish-language reality program Rica, Famosa, Latina.
