HIV/AIDS

He is charged with making unfounded claims about “curing HIV.” Bushiri responded that only Jesus can work miracles and that he has never in his life done so. But before courts decided the ECG church is permitted to continue operating in the nation, Botswana temporarily barred him from entering the country over claims of improbable miracles. He used to be able to enter the nation whenever he wanted, but now he has to apply for a visa each time.

Fees for Public Dinners

Some of Bushiri’s public dinners’ admission costs have been called into question.
The Pretoria Showground hosted a gala dinner on 23 December 2017, and it was alleged that he charged up to R25,000 for a place at his table. In January 2016, he reportedly charged N$1,000 to attend a meal in Windhoek, Namibia. He firmly denied the high pricing allegations for “so-called gala meals” in various press interviews, calling them “fake.”

Investment Programs

He allegedly declared that he wants to turn churchgoers into millionaires during a church session in March 2017. Then, via email, members were instructed to deposit at least R100,000 with him during the following two days in exchange for a guarantee of a 50% return within 30 banking days.
People who couldn’t bring cash to church were sent the banking information for a company called Rising Estates, whose directors are lieutenants of Bushiri named Willah Mudolo, Duncan Oduor Otieno, and Kit Ching Catherine Kum. Two years later, those who gave Bushiri money claim they haven’t received anything in return.

Paternity

Bushiri is accused of having an unborn child with a young Malawian woman he met in their hometown of Mzimba in 2010. He also claims to have paid her to have an abortion in 2010 with a check for R1,500, but the check bounced. The woman went on to give birth to a girl in 2011, who her father says “is the spitting image of Bushiri” and that “it is widely known in the district that he is the biological father.”

The family claims that they “kept quiet out of fear” and that the woman is now married. Before the family entered Bushiri, the wife and child’s hamlet, where they reside, broke the news. He asserts that the check was taken from him and that Bushiri was attending to a hijacking attempt on the day the woman says he caused her to get pregnant.

The mother tried to obtain maintenance through the courts once more in 2018, but she was unsuccessful. Despite his public denials, the girl’s family claims that Bushiri admits to the allegations in private and has asked for a paternity test. Terrence Baloyi, Bushiri’s attorney, did not return City Press’s calls, texts, or emails for comment.
